Frequently Asked Questions

How do I record a note?

Open Unmuss and tap the record button, or start from the Home Screen widget, the Apple Watch app, or a Shortcut assigned to the Action Button or Back Tap. There is nothing to set up first — speak however the thought arrives, and Unmuss writes it down and cleans it up.

How do I capture a note while driving?

Say “Hey Siri, capture driving note in Unmuss.” Recording starts immediately and stops by itself about two seconds after you stop speaking, so you never touch the phone. Note that this Siri phrase is currently available in English only.

How long can one recording be?

A single recording is capped at 60 seconds. That is intentional: it keeps a capture short enough to do while walking or waiting. For a longer thought, simply start the next recording — it can be added to the same note as a new version, or fused with the ones before it.

Where do recordings from my Watch or a Shortcut go?

They land in the Inbox as quick captures. Nothing is lost if you do not deal with them immediately — open the Inbox later and move a capture into a note, or select several and fuse them into one.

What are versions, and can I undo one?

Every time you work on the same note again, the result is stored as a new version. The recording you just added can be undone straight away, and older versions stay listed in Version History, where you can compare two or more of them side by side and go back to the one you preferred.

Can I combine recordings that belong together?

Yes. Select two or more captures in the Inbox and choose Fuse. They become a single note, and the next time you record on that note the fused material is taken into account.

What is Master Recap?

Master Recap is the way to pull a whole thread together. It takes everything in a note's history and all of its pending material and combines them into a new version — useful when a topic has grown over several days and you want one coherent piece out of it.

Which languages can I speak and write in?

Unmuss supports eight output languages: Simplified Chinese, Cantonese, English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. You can pick the language for each recording, or let the app follow your system language. The app interface itself is localized in English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.

Does Unmuss work offline?

You can record without a connection, and your audio is kept safely on the device. Transcription and AI rewriting need the internet, so recordings made offline are processed once you are back online.

Why haven't my notes appeared on my other device?

Notes sync through your own iCloud account. Check that both devices are signed in with the same Apple ID, that iCloud Drive is enabled, and that Unmuss is allowed to use iCloud under Settings > Apple ID > iCloud. Sync can also pause while a device is offline or in Low Data Mode.

I bought credits or a subscription but the app doesn't show them.

First make sure you are online and reopen the app. If your credits still do not appear, use Restore Purchases in the app's purchase screen. Subscriptions are managed by Apple under Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions, where you can also cancel or change plans.

What happens when I run out of transcription credits?

Unmuss starts you off with an allowance of credits. When they run out, recordings that still need processing are held and marked as pending rather than discarded — they are retried automatically once you top up with a credit pack or subscribe.

How do I delete my data?

Delete individual notes inside the app. To remove everything, delete the app from your device, then clear its iCloud data under Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Unmuss > Delete Data. Recordings you have already had processed are not stored on our servers, so there is nothing further to request.
